Summer Mystery Series!

Step into the SHOTiverse for a live online murder mystery party hosted on Zoom. Come solve mysteries with us and other mystery lovers throughout the summer!

During the event, suspects will share information, reveal secrets, investigate and cast an accusation in the end! Sleuths will question the suspects to find who had the motive, means and opportunity to commit the murder.

Whether you love being deep in the drama or prefer solving from the detective’s chair, every type of person can participate!

Mystery Club FAQs

Do I have to dress up?

We always encourage dressing for your character or mystery theme.

Some mysteries will have a more costume-based theme, and those will be marked Costumes Required on the schedule. For those, dress to impress (at least from the waist up)

Is Mystery Club good for beginners?

Yes. Mystery Club is designed for both returning SHOT detectives and brand-new players.

If you want to play a character, choose a Suspect Ticket. If you would rather investigate without playing a suspect, choose a Sleuth Ticket.

What is the difference between a Suspect and a Sleuth?

A Suspect receives a character role and becomes part of the mystery. You may have secrets, motives, clues, and information to reveal during the event.

A Sleuth attends as a detective. You won’t play a suspect, but you’ll still participate by questioning suspects, watching for clues, comparing theories, and helping solve the case.

Do Sleuths still participate?

Yes. Sleuths are active investigators.

You can ask questions, take notes, share theories, compare clues, and vote on who you think committed the murder.

Do I have to act if I choose a Suspect Ticket?

No. You do not need to memorize lines or perform.

You’ll receive the information you need before the event, and you can refer to your Suspect Guide, stay in your comfort zone, and play your character in whatever way feels natural to you.

Now, having said that, if you want to embody your character fully, go for it!

Can I request a male or female suspect role?

For Co-Ed mysteries, yes.

When you select a Suspect Ticket, you’ll be asked to choose your character role preference:

• Female role preferred
• Male role preferred
• No preference

We’ll do our best to match your request based on availability and the needs of the mystery.

What if I do not care which role I receive?

Choose No preference when selecting your suspect role preference. This gives us the most flexibility when assigning characters.

Can I choose my exact character?

No. Character roles are assigned based on the mystery, the guest list, role availability, and the preferences submitted by Suspect Ticket holders.

You can request a role type, but exact characters cannot be guaranteed.

How will we be solving the mysteries?

Mystery Club events run live on Zoom.

Suspects will play their assigned characters, share information and answer questions. Sleuths will investigate by questioning the suspects, verifying alibis and forming a theory. Both Suspects and Sleuths will cast an accusation in the end against the Suspect they believe committed the murder!

Do I need Zoom experience?

No. Most people are familiar with Zoom now, but if you need extra help getting set up, we’ll open the Zoom room early to help with any tech issues and offer a short tutorial on how the event will work.

Do I need to be on camera?

Yes. Mystery Club is a live social mystery event, and being on camera helps everyone interact, question suspects, and enjoy the experience together.

Can I play from anywhere?

Yes. Mystery Club is hosted online through Zoom, so you can join from anywhere as long as you have a stable internet connection.

All events take place at 8 PM Eastern.

Can I attend with friends?

Yes. Each person will need their own ticket.

You can choose the same event and each select the role type that feels best. One person might play a suspect while another joins as a sleuth.

Can I buy more than one ticket?

Each participant should have their own ticket so we can track attendees and role preferences properly.

If you are buying for someone else, make sure they are available for the event and understand that Mystery Club tickets are non-refundable.

Can I just watch?

No. Mystery Club is interactive, so everyone who attends will participate in some way. If you don’t want to play a suspect, choose a Sleuth Ticket. You’ll still be part of the investigation without having to play a character.

When will I receive my character information?

Suspect information will be sent before the event, once the guest list and roles have been finalized.

Sleuths will receive event instructions and any detective information they need before the mystery begins.

When will I receive the Zoom link?

The Zoom link and event instructions will be sent by email before your selected Mystery Club event.

Please watch your inbox for emails from Shot In The Dark Mysteries and make sure to add us to your “allow” list, especially if you use GMAIL!

What happens if an event sells out?

When an event sells out, a waitlist will be established.

If a spot opens up, we’ll contact people on the waitlist in order.

Can I join the waitlist for a sold-out event?

Yes. If an event sells out, you’ll be able to join the waitlist at no cost.

Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a ticket, but if a spot opens up, we’ll contact waitlisted detectives as soon as possible.

If I sign up and can’t make it, can I get a refund?

No. Mystery Club tickets are non-refundable.

These are live, role-based events, and the mystery depends on the right number of people attending. If you cannot make it, please contact us as soon as possible. In special circumstances, we may be able to discuss moving your ticket to a different mystery, but this is not guaranteed.

Why are tickets non-refundable?

Every Mystery Club event depends on the right number of participants, and everyone is relying on each other to attend. That’s why this is called “Mystery Club”, not “Mystery Come-If-You-Feel-Like-It” ;)

Suspect roles are especially important because those characters help carry the story. If someone does not attend, we may need to find another person to take that spot so the mystery still works for the rest of the group.

Can I transfer my ticket to someone else?

Possibly, but please contact us first.

Because suspect roles and event details may already be assigned, ticket transfers need to be approved so we can make sure the new guest has the right information.

Can I buy a ticket to all the mysteries?

Absolutely.

Are the mysteries different each week?

Yes. Each week will feature a different mystery.

The schedule will show which mystery is being played on each date once the lineup is finalized.

What if I have already played one of the mysteries?

If you have already played or read the solution to a mystery, choose a different date if possible.

Mystery Club is most fun when the solution is still a secret.

Will the event be recorded?

No. Mystery Club events are live interactive experiences and are not intended to be watched later. Having said that, we may record the experience to highlight fun moments on our social media.

How long does each mystery last?

The investigations will take between 2 and 2.5 hours.

Can I book a private Zoom mystery event?

Yes. Private facilitated Zoom mystery events are available again for the summer months only.
