What are you doing for Halloween?

Ooh Halloween is my favourite time of year, a time filled with scents – the smell of leaves, crisp fall air, pumpkins and that pore-clogging Halloween make-up.

For the first time in years, I am not spending my Halloween pulling off a charity fundraiser or (as was the case last year) trying to settle into a new place in a new city while battling pregnancy sickness. I considered throwing a Shot In The Dark Mysteries murder mystery fundraiser this year in Toronto, like I have done in previous years in Calgary before we moved. I even put the wheels in motion to have a party with my husband’s friends who have never played a murder mystery game, and planned to throw The Halloween Howler, just to keep things simple and stress-free. But in the end, I knew I needed a quiet Halloween this year, with more time to focus on creating custom mysteries for my clients.

So, this year for Halloween I’m doing two totally fun things. First, tonight (Friday the 30th) I am going to Fit2Dance to learn the Thriller dance. I can’t wait!

At the last minute a friend came through for me to watch Little Man so I can go shake it like the undead. Tomorrow some friends are coming by to hang out on the porch and help us hand out candy, and we’re dressing Little Man up as a Tiger (Tigger, really – fitting, since all he does is bounce).

I find I really miss the party aspect of Halloween this year, even though I’m doing some great things instead of the murder mystery fundraiser. But what does a true die-hard do on November 1st? Why, starts planning for next year, of course! So, in some way and some fashion, next year Shot In The Dark Mysteries will be hosting a fundraiser murder mystery party.

For this year, I will revel in the scents that represent Halloween for me – and enjoy shaking it like a zombie, too.
