The Medieval Feast Boar – Who saw that coming?

Recently I started creating sample game materials for each game launched on Shot In The Dark Mysteries, or re-launched (like Murder At The Superhero Peace Convention – an old fave that just got a hot new facelift). These samples include the game instructions (or, in the case of the Mini-Mysteries, a sample of a suspect guide) and sample clues. Naturally, I don’t include REAL clues, the ones in the sample are fake and, usually, a bit outrageous.

A Medieval Mystery, the first in a new line of Mini-Mysteries, launches tomorrow (Friday Feb. 19th). As always, I promoted the game and sample materials, but was shocked with the response I had – not to A Medieval Murder launching, but to the SAMPLE MATERIALS!

See, instead of creating a bogus character for the sample clues, I created clues for a medieval bystander: The Feast Boar. This boar has a dark secret about where he was at the time of the murder, as explained in his “hide” clue.

People went nuts! I got emails like “Go Boar, Go!” and “I hope he DID kill the king – would serve him right for trying to serve him up”.

People on Twitter started commenting on how the outrageous little boar needed his own Facebook fan page… I even had someone ask me if the pig in Totally Lost (Pig. E. Vil, the evilest pig ever) was a descendant of the Medieval Feast Boar, and other LOSTies asking if the Feast Boar was on The Island at any time, or if he was a part of the Dharma Initiative.

You know the boars hang out with Smokie when no one's around.

There has even been demand for the boar to become a character in the game itself. Will he? Well, who knows what the future holds for our friend, The Feast Boar, but we know one thing for sure – if he escaped the castle, he is most definitely hanging out on a beach some where, being fanned with palm leaves by the great Miss Piggy herself.

Check out the Sample Game Materials for A Medieval Murder (that’s the link back there, where it reads “Sample Game Materials” wink wink) and weigh in on whether Boary should have his own Facebook fan page or not.
