Summer Sanity Saver Activity: Art In A Box
Art in a Box
A perfect, quick rainy day activity, and a twist on the humdrum colouring and fingerpainting! We’re going to use an old box (or oatmeal container, or anything else you can find that will close) to create some modern art that will rival the stuff hanging in your doctor’s office.
What you’ll need:
Broken crayons
Paint in various colours
Tape
White paper
An empty box, oatmeal container or anything else you find – the hunt for the container amidst your recycling is part of the fun.
Tape a piece of paper inside your box.
Gather broken crayons from various and sometimes surprising areas of your home. We recommend checking between the couch cushions. If your house is like ours, they won’t be hard to find.
Apply dobbs of paint liberally to broken crayons.
Place crayons inside box. Close box and secure with tape. Then, let your kids shake, shake, shake!
When you open the box, you’ll see your art! Allow masterpiece to dry and then display someplace where everyone can ooh and ahh over your child’s genious.
Perfect for:
Bonding
Creativity
Silliness
We hope you enjoy this project with your child or children. Jamie, our 2.5 year old test subject had lots of fun shaking the box, and jumping up and down as he did it!
